1. Changing churches and schools.

Research as much as possible, and if you’re able to – visit and get a feel for them in person.

2. Starting a new job.

If you’re able, delay starting your new job for a couple of weeks to a month so you can get acclimated and moved in to the point that you’re not adding job stress to the equation.

3. Finding the neighborhood you would want to live in when you don’t know the town.

This is where a good local realtor can help you immensely! Do some research by looking for reviews online or asking around town.

4. Making new friends – when you’re a grown-up.

If you have kids, you can meet other parents through their activities! Exploring your new town, joining a gym or a class you’re interested in, or volunteering can help you find people with similar interests!

5. Preparing for the unexpected in the actual selling/buying/closing process.

You can’t anticipate every scenario, but having certain things on-hand, or backup plans ready if your date/plans don’t go as expected can at least help alleviate the stress of the situation so you feel prepared – not petrified!
